quip 360
360 is quip’s first new electric toothbrush since its start. It addresses common problems with power toothbrushes and with a few key decisions allows for high-end features at a reasonable price.
Led the design process for a rapid one year development
Designed and developed packaging for retail & DTC channels
Ran user research sessions & stakeholder brainstorms
Directed 3D visualization agencies to develop imagery for launch campaigns and packaging
Proudly on display
Following our “designed to be left out” methodology, 360 brings lifestyle centric design cues to an otherwise clinical space. This reframing translates to users proud to display their brush on the counter.
Accessorized
Splitting charging from the stand allowed the product to live cable free when not charging, a point of frustration we learned early on in testing. Designing the charger to be stand-alone allowed the travel experience to be lightweight.
Easy cleaning
I took a two pronged approach for addressing toothpaste build up, the main issue we noticed in testing. All surfaces and transitions were designed to rinse off and each component disassembles for improved cleaning.
Designed & Tested
I developed the bristle pattern in collaboration with quip’s dental advisors to ensure the brush head was as functional as it was beautiful. Multiple brush head designs were run through lab testing to define their final efficacy.
Pushing paper
The refill packaging is constructed from a single piece of molded fiber with an in mold living hinge and sealed with a paper sticker. This solution brought an innovative form & construction to the category while meeting target costs for the packaging.
Development
I visited our suppliers in China to check DV units and packaging samples. While there, we worked on issues related to both appearance and function of the product.
